Therapy animals help Brewster skilled nursing residents. Here’s how to give back.

Cape Cod Post Acute Care in Brewster has launched Operation Santa Paws to collect pet supplies for the Animal Rescue League of Boston in Brewster.

The skilled nursing facility, which often hosts animal-assisted therapy visits, is accepting donations through Dec. 22, according to a community announcement. Items needed include blankets, towels, dog and cat beds, unopened pet food and treats, pet toys, grooming products, collars, leashes, and food and water bowls.

Donations can be dropped off at Cape Cod Post Acute Care, 383 S Orleans Road.

Therapy animals play a vital role in the lives of long-term care residents, particularly those with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, according to the announcement. Animal therapy can provide emotional support, increase self-esteem, improve social skills and reduce the risk of depression and anxiety.
