Compilation of Golden Retriever’s ‘Squishiest’ Moments Will Totally Make Your Day

How many different ways can a Golden Retriever squish? Zebby’s parent counted 6, including “grumpy squish” and “confused squish” (both winners in different ways).

Trust us, this compilation of adorable faces will be the best 2025 recap you see.

The post asked us to choose our favorite squish and, honestly, we can’t choose. Viewers jumped into the comments with theirs, though. “All of them! But no. 6 is extra squishtastic,” @Caz Hillis exclaimed. “I think #2 is my favorite squish, but they all are so good,” @My Pal Mango added. @Charishma + Boomer put it nicely, “Very squishhhyyyy bear.” He does in fact look quite ursine in a few of these. Finally, @CalkinsCreations shared what we were all thinking, “How do you get anything done with that puppers hanging around???” Seriously!

This wasn’t the first time Zebby stole hearts. His earlier video showed him stopping at the fire station to get a “cookie” from the dog treat box. It’s hilarious.

Viewer @Josh Sanders better explained the situation, “*Human*: ‘Firefighters work here.’ *dog*: ‘That’s great, open the box.'” Yup, that about sums it up. “I love how he knows where his cookie jar is at,” @Diana remarked. “Oh he KNOWS!!!” his dog mom responded.

Why do Golden Retrievers have the squishiest faces?

If you’ve ever thought that it doesn’t get any more squish than a Golden, you’re onto something. Retrievers, in general, love to carry things around because they were bred to fetch (or retrieve, hence the name) game, like birds. If they chomped super hard, they would damage the animal and its feathers, so they carry things gently.

This, in turn, has impacted their mouths, which are “so soft, it’s said they can carry a raw egg in their mouths without cracking the shell,” according to the American Kennel Club. While most pets don’t hunt these days, they still sport the mega-adorbs faces that always look squishy. This, along with their personalities, make them one of the most popular breeds in America.
