At a family party, dogs catch on pretty quickly to who they can get the most treats from—and therefore who they should sit next to for optimal snacking. My pups know that the best seat in the house is next to my granddaughter’s highchair, since they’re almost guaranteed a few tasty morsels thrown their way if they wait long enough.
Golden Retrievers size up their snacking partners as soon as the guests arrive. For one pup named Ranger, it appears to be a very quick selection process, and he zeroed in on the person he knew he could count on.
Now, the video posted on TikTok by @sunnycorina doesn’t say the exact relationship between the Golden and his chosen human, but we definitely get the feeling that they know each other!
The caption reads, “POV: You are at a Christmas dinner party, and the dog chooses you,” as the camera pans the room before settling on the beautiful Retriever hiding under the table, his nose just inches from the plate.
Hilarious Reactions From Viewers
As you can imagine, for a video with over 3,500 comments, there were bound to be plenty of funny thoughts. For example, @babycakez joked, “He senses the weak one, LOL. He knows you’ll cave and give him food!” while another account quipped, “You are now one of his elite employees!”
Another viewer shared, “In my household, that means the dog thinks you’re the ‘weak link’ and will give them food!” and @blue suggested what Ranger might be thinking: “I see great potential in you—you’re gonna give me a lot of food.”
Many verified accounts jumped into the comments, too, including @NatGeoAnimals, who admitted, “We’d be giving that cute face our whole plate!” and @MattressFirm, who added, “I’m simply not strong enough to say no to that face!”
Several commenters said this behavior is basically the equivalent of winning the lottery for pooch lovers, and we would agree—it’s a very high honor, and a little sad that only one party guest gets to feel as special as the Golden Retriever made this one feel!
