Some people prefer to spend the holidays in a winter wonderland, while others, like Alvin the guinea pig and his family, like to travel somewhere warmer instead. Alvin’s ‘big sister,’ @iheartshopping23, loved seeing her mom’s spoiled guinea pig living his best life by the pool in Cabo for Christmas, but not even she expected what a stir her video would cause online.
With nearly half a million likes and over 800 comments, Alvin and his family are setting an impressive example for pet parents everywhere. Guinea pigs don’t need much more than love, care, and enrichment to be happy, but it’s sure fun to watch Alvin lying in the lap of luxury.
Alvin is such a prince! He looks so happy to soak in the sunshine and float around the pool with Mom, but then again, who wouldn’t be on Cloud 9 on a tropical Christmas vacation?
“Why is the guinea pig on vacation and I’m not?” asked @artistbernadettehoward. It’s hard to admit feeling jealous of a family pet, but in this case, it’s completely valid. Everyone deserves a break like this family is getting, but for now, we can live vicariously through Alvin instead.

Even other animals are envious! Commenter @living_d3adgirl shared, “My guinea pigs just asked if we’re poor. Not everyone can take an entire vacation for Christmas, but anyone can include their pet on vacation or in a fun weekend activity. Just be sure to research your pet’s needs to make sure they’re having fun, too!
Can Guinea Pigs Travel?
Traveling is stressful enough as it is, but bringing pets along can further complicate things. Luckily, you can set your own rules if you’re traveling by car, but when a plane or train is involved, you may need to do some research.
Some airlines limit furry travel companions to dogs and cats, while others only allow them to ride in the cargo hold at the bottom of the plane. Frontier Airlines, however, allows a number of small pets in the cabin, including: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, and small birds.
The planning and extra fees can make traveling with pets more complicated, but it’s so worth it to see them living their best lives on vacation—just ask Alvin!
