Senior Chihuahua’s Snowy ‘Bucket List’ Adventure Is One for the Books

There are quite a bit of everyday happenings we take for granted that our pets probably wouldn’t. That first decadent bite of something tasty, butterflies fluttering in our stomachs when we first fall in love, and the warm sunshine pouring down over us on a chilly day are all things worth remembering—if we cherish the moment to take it all in.

The older we get, the more important those little things become, with some changing into really big “bucket list” things we want to experience at some point. For a senior Chihuahua named Piper, that means seeing and feeling snow, and lucky for him, the universe answered.

Some videos really tug at the heartstrings, and this one, shared by dog dad @dennis.gerard, is one of them. It’s not because something really huge happens, either—it’s the realization that sweet Piper hasn’t felt snow in 10 years and at his age, there’s no telling how many more chances he’ll get.

“Piper enjoying the snowfall on his head,” the caption says in part. I’m not crying, you’re crying. The senior cutie may be wrapped tightly like a burrito to stay warm, and he only felt the snowflakes for a moment, but I’m sure he took it all in so he could remember it for the rest of his days (be still my heart).

Piper Recently Moved Away From His Pup Brother

With so many adoring fans asking about the senior Chihuahua, Dad reassured that even at 18 years young, he’s doing well. It was only two months ago when Piper spent his last day with rescue brother, Mr. Bentley, as Dad prepared for a big move after the divorce.

He may not have understood that it would be their last time together, but as Dad explained, it seemed that Bentley felt some change was coming with moving boxes everywhere. It’s why he let Piper choose his spot on the blanket first, and yes, now I am crying.

I have no doubt that Piper understood the goodbye to Bentley, just as he may have accepted this snowfall might be the last. That’s the heartbreak of loving dogs—they can’t stay forever, but the time we do have? It’s all a dream bucket list with dogs like Piper by our side.
