Does your dog hate going potty in the snow? Well, if snow and ice is in your forecast this week, we just came upon a trick that might be your saving grace.
Courtney Vassar, an Instagrammer who focuses on life hacks, DIY, and home decor under the handle @getittogetherwithcourtney, posted: “If you have dogs, do this BEFORE it snows. My husband puts a tarp down and anchors the edges with cinder blocks to keep it from blowing away.”
Then, she explains, when the dog needs to go out for a potty break, all you have to do is roll back the tarp and voila—you have a snow-free patch of lawn.
The video accompanying her post shows said husband taking their dog out to do its business on a snowy day. The dog is indeed enjoying a green square of grass despite the snow.
Commenters loved this solution. “So genius!!!” said one. “This is actually so brilliant. We have this issue every snow!!!” another chimed in.
Accolades poured in for the thoughtful dog dad, too: “🔥👏GOOD husband.”
The thread also turned up similar snowy-weather tricks from other dog owners: “We put up a canopy or ours won’t go.”
It might not be the solution for everyone. One commenter pointed out the possibility that the tarp might get too heavy to roll back during big snow falls. Also, you might have a dog that would ignore the thoughtful offering in favor of running all over the snowy yard—in which case, you probably don’t need this tip at all!
