Guinea Pigs Enjoying Their Own Private Salad Bar Will Warm Your Heart

My favorite TikTok guinea pigs are back, and they’re still hungry. Thankfully, they live in a diner’s paradise “where a feast just magically falls from the sky.” In this recent video, we see the magician behind their gourmet lifestyle chopping up a smorgasbord of fresh veggies (that frankly, any person would be lucky to enjoy) while his gang of little guys squeak wildly in anticipation.

He then spills the salad gently down onto the ground around them, and the ravenous rodents make quick work of their lunch. Instead of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, the forecast for these furry friends is sunny with the certainty of veg.

I find watching these little creatures indulge in their meals very relaxing, and I can’t help but feel comforted by the fact that they are being so well cared for. Do happier guinea pigs exist? How can we tell?

Signs Your Guinea Pig Is Happy

Turns out, you can know whether your guinea pig is happy based on a few telltale signs, some of which include:

  1. A good appetite and enthusiasm for food (check!)

  2. Engaging in plenty of activity

  3. “Popcorning” (when a guinea pig leaps into the air with happiness)

  4. Squeaks and whistles (check, check!)

  5. Peaceful interactions with habitat mates

  6. Grooming their habitat mates

Based on this list, it would seem that the guinea pigs in this clip are supremely happy. Just the food selection and companionship alone should cause them not a care in the world — except for dreaming about their next salad storm.

In general, guinea pigs are considered social, chatty little animals who make low-maintenance pets. To ensure their happiness, guinea pigs need a roomy indoor cage with solid flooring, clean bedding, a hideaway, and temperatures kept between 65–79°F. A healthy diet is essential: unlimited green grass hay, guinea pig–specific pellets, fresh water, daily vitamin C, and small portions of fresh veggies. Regular grooming and annual vet checkups with an experienced exotic veterinarian help keep them healthy. Guinea pigs also need gentle handling, daily playtime, and companionship—either from humans or another guinea pig—to truly flourish.
