And then there were those that noticed that the dog defends babies not only on television, but in real life as well. One fan noticed the moment, saying, “Oh my gosh. When he stopped her from crawling past him.”
How to Make Sure Your Dog Loves Your Baby
If you’re expecting a baby or introducing a baby to your dog, preparation matters.
Start by gradually exposing your dog to baby-related sounds before the baby arrives. Play recordings of crying at low volumes and reward calm behavior. Let your dog sniff baby items like blankets or lotion so new scents become familiar.
When introducing your dog to the baby, keep the environment calm. Allow your dog to observe from a comfortable distance. Reward relaxed body language with praise or treats.
It’s also important to maintain your dog’s routine. Sudden changes in attention can lead to confusion or jealousy. Continue daily walks, playtime and one-on-one affection so your dog doesn’t feel replaced.
Most importantly, never leave a dog and baby alone together, no matter how gentle your dog appears.
