Back in November, the Memphis Zoo welcomed its newest family member, a male giraffe they named Rahisi, born to father Nikla and mother Maliki. While he’s spent time getting to know the rest of the herd, he’s just now getting around to meeting the neighbors who live next door, the ostriches.
The Zoo shared this funny video, taken by Keeper Emily, on their social media channels, and it’s cracking everybody up. It features an intense stare-down between the baby and one judgy-looking ostrich. Make sure your sound is on, because the accompanying music makes the whole scene even funnier!
The Zoo said in the video’s caption, “Rahisi has met the neighbors,” and it feels like there should be a big, bold checkmark next to it!

Hilarious Reactions to the Baby Giraffe and Ostrich’s Epic Staring Contest
Viewers left hundreds of comments after watching the staring contest, and some of them made us LOL. Like @Dragon Chiss, who got 25,000 likes when they said what Rahisi and the ostrich were probably thinking, “‘Where are your feathers?’ ‘Where are your other legs?'” @mjgapasin added, “‘Bird that can’t fly, huh?’ ‘A mammal that cannot swim, heh?'”
@Mad Hammer got more than 10,000 comments when they said what the ostrich was thinking, “Been a long time since someone looked me in my eyes…” @Jazz pointed out something that we hadn’t even noticed, “Absolutely realizing I did not know ostrich and baby giraffe were the same size …terrifying.” @Kmae added, “They both look so shocked another being is at their eye level LOl!”
Commenter @djpurestax hit the nail on the head when they said, “It’s giving Step Brothers,” with a screenshot from the movie of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s epic stare down when they first meet.
@Wrinkles the Clown joked, “Well…obviously this town isn’t big enough for the both of us,” and @Harley corrected, “*Tall enough”.
@Mickey20 cracked us up with, “I wanna know, how long did they stare at each other?” The Zoo didn’t mention how long the stare-down went on, but even if it was just a few seconds, it made millions of people’s days!
