New Jersey Horses Roll and Frolic in the Snow Like Kids on a Snow Day

The first snowfall of each winter may be filled with magic, but after a few weeks, the idea of snow gets a bit stale. Maybe it’s the never-ending shoveling or the hassle of layering on winter clothes, but snow just isn’t as novel as it was in childhood. Unless, of course, you’re a horse!

Animal residents at Fern and Forge Farm in New Jersey never seem to get tired of the winter wonderland vibes every snowstorm brings. On February 23, the happy horses donned their blankets and walked out to the pasture for the snow day of their dreams. By the looks of it, these equine friends had more fun than kids on a snow day!

This looks like so much fun! Anyone would have a blast rolling in the powder with these excited horses, but the view from the sidelines couldn’t be cuter. Their kicks and zoomies are too cute!

“The synchronised rolls in the snow,” left commenters like @marenmn44 laughing out loud. It’s as if synchronised swimming were an equine sport! Some horses are pros at barrel racing or creative dressage performances, but these buddies are paving the way for a brand new event.

@Keeprightexcepttopass said what millions of people were thinking when they wrote, “I’m glad someone’s enjoying the snow.” Recent blizzards have made life especially difficult for those caught in them, but it’s nice to see that the aftermath worked out for these adventurous horses.

That being said, not all horses enjoy going outside in the winter. Some may feel sore in the cold or unsteady on slippery ice, but it could even come down to a dislike of the sensation of snow on their legs. To each their own!

Winter Enrichment for Horses

For horses who don’t refuse to walk in the snow, using it to their advantage can be a great way to provide winter enrichment. Sometimes, walking and rolling in the snow is all they need, but some horse parents find even more creative ways to include their animals in the wintertime fun.

“I used to build my horses snowmen with chopped apples and carrots hidden all over the inside of them,” @fitnessiseverything2 shared. “They loved digging through them.”

How cute! The horses from @fernandforgefarm prove there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy the snow. Just take advantage of it before it all melts!
