Lots of folks look to their dogs for protection from intruders, but one real-life super dog protected not only his house but his whole neighborhood from an invisible threat.
Kobe is a four-year-old miniature Alaskan husky living with his mom, Chanell Bell, in Philadelphia. One day, according to a report by Inside Edition, he started digging a deep hole in the front yard, sniffing the air and whining at passersby, seemingly in an attempt to get their attention.

“It was very strange because he’s not a digger,” Bell is quoted in an Inside Edition TV spot, “and he stayed by the hole, I had to like, practically drag him away from the hole.”
Bell initially had the hole filled in, thinking Kobe was simply exhibiting some new, albeit odd, behavior. She figured Kobe was just bored, but when the husky went back to the spot and dug another deep hole a few days later, she started to think again.
Kobe’s mom bought a gas leak detector and inspected the site, only to find the meter pushed to its maximum.
“I was just flabbergasted,” Bell is quoted. “I immediately called the gas company.”
The company agreed Kobe had discovered an “imminent threat” and brought a team out to handle the leak immediately. Now, Kobe the Husky is being praised as a hero, getting lots of attention and “good boy” praise on local news channels, Reddit and more.

How Good Is a Husky’s Nose?
While it may not be as sharp as a bloodhound’s nose, a husky’s nose is still up to 100,000 times more sensitive than a human’s.
Huskies have up to 300 million olfactory receptors compared to mankind’s six million, and they’re able to pick up faint and distant scents, particularly in cold environments, like Philadelphia in the winter.
For Bell, her family and her entire neighborhood, Kobe’s extra receptors quite literally made the difference and saved the day. Such a super feat calls for a lifetime of extra treats!
