Anyone who has ever shared their home with a puppy before already knows that it can be a very funny time in your life — stressful, but so entertaining. Watching them discover the world is so much fun, and so is seeing the different, funny things they do as a brand new dog with endless energy.

And if you’ve never seen a dog assume the “sploot” position before, bringng home a new puppy almost guarantees you that experience, just like what the Golden Retriever puppy in the video below is doing.

Here, Scottie’s mom caught him in a sploot, which left him looking like an actual frog with those legs, and immediately, she started firing off questions about what was going on.

Scottie wasn’t having it though, and he quickly went back to lying his head down and getting some rest. Can’t blame him for that — who doesn’t need some time to relax alone after a long day.

Is Dog Splooting Normal?

If you’ve noticed your dog hanging out around the house like a frog the way that Scotty does, no worries — plenty of pups out there have a splooting habit!

As ElleVet pointed out, though the position looks very uncomfortable to us as humans, for dogs, it’s far more natural. After all, there’s only one real reason they do it: They are happy laying like that, so if it wasn’t comfy, they simply wouldn’t do it.

The site also notes that if your dog seems to relax like this after playing outside, they may simply be trying to get cool. It’s also an easy way for them to stretch out all their muscles. If an older dog seems to be splooting more often, it might be because it relieves the pressure on their back and hips that might be aching after a full day of being a dog.

Fortunately, splooting isn’t something you need to worry about, so just enjoy how cute and frog-like your dog is. If only we humans could be that naturally flexible!
