A man known for singing and playing guitar for all kinds of animals recently serenaded a Sun Bear, and the beast’s reaction was truly remarkable. Equipped with his signature pink acoustic guitar, the musician began playing for the bear inside the ZooParc de Trégomeur in France. Slowly, the curious – and curious-looking – creature wandered over toward the music to get a better listen. As the song continued and the bear got as close as she could, she stood upright on her hind legs and began to sway. The bear was dancing, and as the rain fell around her, the moment looked cinematic.
One commenter agreed, “Singing to a Sun Bear in the rain. Poetry in motion.”
Several other fans pointed out that it looked like the bear was mimicking the musician, playing her own air guitar while she enjoyed this rare treat. Luckily, Sun Bears are blessed with excellent hearing (but less excellent vision).

What Is a Sun Bear?
Sun Bears may be the smallest of all bear species, but they pack in a surprising amount of personality—and power. About half the size of an American Black Bear, they’re instantly recognizable thanks to the pale crescent marking on their chest, often said to resemble a rising sun (and no two are exactly alike).
Despite their compact size, Sun Bears are impressively equipped. They have strong jaws for tearing into trees, long claws for climbing, and an extra-long tongue that’s perfect for reaching honey and insects tucked deep inside bark. They’re also excellent climbers, spending much of their time in trees where they rest, sunbathe, and even build nests.
Their diet leans heavily on fruit and insects, but they’re true opportunists—snacking on everything from honey and coconuts to small animals when the chance arises. And while they may look a little clumsy with their pigeon-toed walk, they’re actually quick and agile when they need to be.
Sun Bears are mostly solitary, with mothers raising cubs that are born completely helpless and dependent. Over time, those cubs grow into playful young bears before eventually heading out on their own.
Unfortunately, these fascinating animals are considered vulnerable to extinction. Habitat loss, poaching, and conflict with humans—especially around palm oil farming—have caused their numbers to decline significantly in recent decades.
