But what if your dog’s absolute favorite pastime has nothing to do with toys at all? Well, that’s the case for Penelopii (aka Penelly) and her beloved family’s TV set in this viral TikTok video. Penelopii’s amazement with movies, specifically an epic film in the “Narnia” series, was liked by nearly 200,000 people, and we’re sure once you see her excitement, you’ll fall in love, too.
Apparently, Penelopii is both a Husky and a cinephile. Her video, at just under one minute long, is an action-packed display of this pup’s true fascination with movies featuring other canines. Not only does she stare in pure amazement at the screen, but she seems to get more activated when a wolf appears. Several viewers commented on how invested she seemed in the wolf storyline. Another viewer joked, “You’re blessed to have a dog movie critic.”

Why does Penelopii love movies so much?

Penelopii’s TikTok page is full of videos of this filmaholic Husky’s adorable reactions to all sorts of movies, often featuring other canines, like Abbey in “I Am Legend.” So, if your pup is anything like Penelly, you may be wondering, “Why does my dog love watching other dogs on TV?”
If you think your dog is especially drawn to other canines on TV, you’re not wrong. A 2024 University of Wisconsin-Madison survey featuring responses from 1,600 dog owners found dog-specific TV and movies to be the most interesting to the dogs, with overall animal content ranking high as well. But what if you have a dog who basically ignores screens?
Well, dogs see TV differently than humans. For one, they can detect movement quicker than us, which can make TV screens appear to flicker for them. Also, they have a variation of two color receptors (dichromatic) versus our three (trichromatic). Depending on personality and breed characteristics that might influence their vision and attention span, a dog may grow to be intrigued or desensitized by whatever’s happening on screen. Even if your fur baby is the opposite of our resident movie-lover, Penelopii, there are plenty of fun mental exercises for dogs you can try with them for a good time.
