Everyone can get that “fear of missing out” feeling. You’re exhausted, but you know that party you were invited to is going to be a rager. There’s a project you need to get done, but that new restaurant’s daily special sounds so good. The list of things we want to squeeze into our schedules despite our energy level or to-do list is endless.

Mac the Golden Retriever gets a case of FOMO anytime guests stop by his house and fights to keep his eyes open, no matter how tired he is.

In the TikTok from @Madelyn_bissell, Mac was lying on the couch with a huge smile on his face, but his eyes were closed. It seemed like his face was awake, except for his eyes.

“Mac has so much FOMO that he won’t let himself go to sleep when people are visiting, even if he can’t keep his eyes open,” the onscreen text explained.

The precious pooch tried so hard to be a part of the gathering, but fatigue was taking over. Mac probably heard the buzz of conversation, which helped him stay somewhat conscious, but it was obviously a struggle. The canine cutie looked absolutely adorable as he fought falling asleep just so he could mingle.

Followers fell in love with Mac and his desire to hob nob with friends.

“Oh my goodness, that baby is the cutest social butterfly,” one gushed.

“He said, I’m not sleeping, I’m just so happy to see you that my eyes are closed’,” another pointed out.

“You leave him be! He’s part of the squad, asleep or not,” a follower posted.

“We think the visitors are here for Mac,” someone remarked.

“’I can see them with my nose, my eyes aren’t necessary’ – Mac, probably,” a fan joked.

Golden Retrievers’ Friendliness Linked to Genetics

A study from the University of Arizona revealed that certain genetic markers — specifically around the oxytocin receptor gene (OXTR) — are linked to social behavior in dogs. Golden Retrievers possessed an increased expression of these markers, showing that they’re biologically wired to be social, cooperative, and people-oriented.

This beautiful breed is always a popular pick for families with young children, as well as seniors who want a cuddly canine. Mac is a wonderful example of a Golden Retriever’s sweet and loving nature.

Maybe next time, his parents will plan an earlier party so Mac can stay awake for the whole thing.
