Has your dog ever chased the mailman? Barked at anything that moves? Jumped on strangers? Stolen food off the counter? When your dog acts up, your frustration likely goes out the window the second they give you those big puppy eyes. But the truth is, basic training and obedience are skills you just can’t skip to give your dog a happy, healthy life.

Working together with a dog training professional can give your dog the foundational behavioral and safety skills they need every day—such as recall and basic commands including sit, stay, and drop it—as well as improve their behavior around strangers and in public.

Rover is an online platform that connects dog walkers and pet sitters with pet parents who need boarding, house sitting, and more. They’ve recently added a new feature that can connect you with certified dog trainers in the area to make it easier to get basic training for your dog. Dog parents can look through local profiles to find the right fit for their pup and book a training session right on the platform.

All dog trainers listed on Rover have passed a background check, provided their dog training credentials, and committed to reward-based training. All training is done through private, in-person sessions, open to dogs of any age—not just puppies. It’s never too late to teach your dog something new or to help reinforce their basic commands to make it easier to take your dog out and about with you, because you know they will listen and stay safe.

In a Rover survey of 1,000 dog owners, two-thirds (65%) wished their dog were better trained, and 67% said they would be more willing to hire a dog trainer if it were easier to find and book one. Most dog parents (86%) also agreed that today’s dogs require more training because they often accompany their people outside the home. Rover’s new feature aims to reduce the number of pet parents who wish their dog had more training and that it was easier to access, leading to better behavior outcomes and less stress for both parents and pets.

Rover’s dog training program was first soft-launched in October 2024. Now, as an official part of the platform, it will connect more pet owners and dog trainers than ever, empowering pet parents to get the best possible care for their dog (and less naughty behavior, regardless of how cute it is).
