Chihuahua Puts Spare Human in His Place When He Tries to Touch Her Things

It’s no secret that most pets have a favorite human, even if they love everyone else in the house. The person they like the least, the one they only go to as a last resort, is often called the “spare human,” and for Dixie the Chihuahua, that’s her dad.

Dixie has two loves: her mom and getting dressed up. She’s perfectly fine with her mom taking her clothes off, but when her dad tries to touch her favorite dress, she lets him know immediately that it’s a hard no!

Dixie told her dad to keep his hands to himself, and she meant business! @MeganJensen698 pointed out, “She was waiting for him to try something!” Commenter @Reeey agreed, “He must’ve stretched/ripped one of her fav outfits cause she is NOT playin with him LOL!”

Are Chihuahuas Possessive?

Chihuahuas are known for being possessive not only of their favorite human but also of their things as well. Wag! explains, “They are widely known to gravitate toward one person and reject new people, but that may be because dogs are more inclined to like those that are more in sync with their own personality. For example, high-energy dogs are more likely to bond with a high-energy person.”

This strong bond can sometimes lead to protective behaviors, such as growling, snapping, or acting aggressively toward others. While this possessiveness is often just a sign of loyalty, it’s obviously not behavior you want your dog to display. That’s why early training and socialization are so important.

So can Dixie’s spare human ever get on her good side? Wag! says that it is possible. “If your dog is mistrustful of a specific family member (or members), there are plenty of ways you can encourage the bond between them. For starters, have your dog spend plenty of active time, whether it’s playtime with toys or walks around the block, with the family member your dog dislikes. You can also let your family member feed or give your dog treats. Food is a great motivator for dogs.” Good luck with that, Dad!
