Viral Footage of Windsurfer Colliding With Whale in San Francisco Bay Has To Be Seen To Be Believed

A windsurfer at San Francisco’s Chrissy Field beach recently collided with a gray whale while they were out on the water. The unbelievable footage of this incident was captured by a man who was there to film all the whales that had recently been spotted in the San Francisco Bay that week.

According to this report, both the windsurfer and the whale are okay. With so many gray whale sightings suddenly happening in the San Francisco Bay Area, people have questions. They want to know where all these whales are coming from and why.

As this footage shows, the windsurfer collided directly with the gray whale. In the video, the whale only becomes visible about a second before the windsurfer sails right into them.

If you turn up the volume on this video, you can hear several bystanders in the background audibly gasping as they see the windsurfer crash into the water after colliding with the gray whale.

Viewers on social media were primarily concerned with whether this whale was okay or not after this collision. Numerous comments, such as “Poor whale. I hope the animal is alright,” and “I hope the whale is ok,” were posted to this video from concerned viewers.

Some viewers on social media stated that they hoped both the whale and the windsurfer were okay: “Hopefully it was no more than a scratch for the whale. I would feel privileged to have had an encounter with a whale, so I don’t feel too bad for the human (as long as he/she didn’t suffer major injuries).”

San Francisco Bay Is Experiencing a Gray Whale Surge

According to this other video, which you can watch by clicking the link here, the San Francisco Bay Area is currently experiencing “major whale concerns.”

Experts from a local marine mammal center have stated that there are currently six gray whales in the waters of San Francisco Bay.

This video notes that this is the second year in a row where there has been a high number of gray whale sightings in the San Francisco Bay.

Some scientists believe that these gray whales are coming to the bay looking for food because they are malnourished from food shortages in the Arctic due to ice level changes.
