The Roger Williams Park Zoo Just Welcomed a Baby Sloth and He’s Too Cute

Remember that massive sloth phase a few years ago? Turns out, it wasn’t a phase, Mom. Sloths are still the internet’s favorite slowpokes, and honestly, they earned it. The DMV scene in Zootopia might be the last time I actually LOL in real life. Sloths seemingly have that effect on people.

According to A-Z Animals, the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, R.I., just welcomed a Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth, born to proud parents Fiona and Wesley (iconic), and he’s already the slowest little celebrity in town.

The baby, named Quint after Capt. Quint from Jaws, was born on Oct. 11 and is thriving under the careful watch of the zoo’s animal care team. For now, he’s sticking close to his mom in their indoor rainforest habitat, spending most of his days cuddled up, snacking on leaves, and perfecting the art of doing absolutely nothing.

“Each birth like this one is a success for the species,” the zoo said in its announcement, celebrating the growing family as a meaningful win for conservation. Linnaeus’s two-toed sloths are native to Central and South America, where habitat loss and deforestation have put increased pressure on wild populations.

According to the zoo, both Fiona and her baby are healthy and doing great. Guests might even catch a glimpse of the pair tucked high up in the canopy, though spotting them might take some patience and a little luck. The zoo shared that the birth is part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, which helps protect sloth populations and ensure the long-term health of the species.

Visitors have already started showing their love online, calling the new arrival “the sweetest face ever” and “proof that slow and steady really does win hearts.”

For now, this baby sloth is happy living up to his iconic sloth reputation, slow-moving, sleepy and completely mesmerizing.
