The second you see the furbaby in the clip below, your brain does a full glitchy-glitch. Because yes, technically this is a cat. But also… what if someone took a handful of pipe cleaners, gave them opinions, and sent them to a cat show?
In the clip, this long, impossibly slender black Oriental Shorthair is being held up while the handler calmly describes him, like everything about this situation is normal. Meanwhile, his limbs just keep going. And going. And his little face is so sharp and expressive, it feels like he might whisper something judgmental at any moment. He looks like a spider. Made out of pipe cleaners. By a preschool student who has never seen a cat before.
The clip was shared on TikTok by @kuttheknit, and the comments absolutely spiraled in the best way.
“What a lovely entity,” one person wrote, which feels like the correct, respectful approach when you are not entirely sure what you are looking at.
“He’s so long,” another added, and honestly, that is the main takeaway. Length. Just… length.

“That’s a piece of lint,” someone said, which is rude but also not entirely wrong. A very elegant piece of lint.
“He’s so stringy. I love him.” Same. Deeply same.
“Does he know he’s famous?” another commenter asked, and I feel like he does. He has the energy of someone who knows exactly what he’s doing.
“I know he honks instead of meows,” which, if you have ever met an Oriental Shorthair, is not even a joke. Those kitties have opinions, and they will share them loudly.
“What brand is the pasta noodle?” took me out completely.
“He looks like a stick,” and then, my personal favorite, “He’s so sploinky,” which somehow captures everything.
I keep thinking about how Meatball would react to this cat. He would stare for a long time, slowly sit down, and then knock something over just to reestablish dominance. This cat, meanwhile, would simply elongate further and continue existing like a living piece of modern art.

Are Oriental Shorthair Cats Good Pets?

Oriental Shorthair cats are actually known for being incredibly social, affectionate, and very, very vocal. They tend to form strong bonds with their people and are not shy about demanding attention, conversation, and involvement in whatever you are doing.
They are also highly intelligent and curious, which means they like stimulation. Toys, climbing spaces, interaction, they want all of it. A bored Oriental Shorthair will absolutely find ways to entertain themselves, and you may or may not enjoy those choices.
Because of their sleek build and short coat, they are more sensitive to cold than fluffier breeds, so they tend to seek out warm spots; ideally, your lap.
Personality-wise, they are big. Like, way bigger than you would expect from such a thin, delicate-looking feline. They are playful, expressive, and sometimes a little dramatic, which honestly feels on-brand after watching this one.
So yes, they may look like a pipe cleaner with opinions, but they are also loving, loyal, and endlessly entertaining companions. And occasionally, they will honk at you for no reason. Which you just have to accept.
