How to Be a Professional Dog Kisser
Being employed as a “dog kisser” or “dog breath sniffer” may sound like an April Fools joke, but one company is actually hiring for these roles! The job listings come from the pet wellness company Spot & Tango, which is seeking to develop a product called PupGum. They are offering up to $1,000 an hour for the positions. The two roles, while similar, have their own unique requirements to help develop and promote PupGum. Dog kissers are tasked with going to NYC’s dog parks and receiving kisses from the pups. The role requires rating and documenting the interactions, while scouting out potential product ambassadors. Kissers will also act as promoters for PupGum, spreading the word about good puppy breath. Getting to spend the day with some of the cutest pups in NYC certainly sounds like a dream to us!
A dog breath sniffer might sound less ideal, but this role is the backbone of the product’s development. The requirements of this job are similar: visit NYC dog parks and sniff the breath of the dogs you interact with. Your goal is to take detailed notes on the scents and share your findings to help create an even better product. Those in veterinary practice or scent specialties like perfumers are encouraged to apply. Want to spend your time outdoors playing with some adorable puppies? If you’ve been on the lookout for a fun job that gets you out of the house, this listing is perfect for you.
Doggy Breath
The dog kisser and dog breath sniffer roles are important for creating the PupGum product, but how clean are dogs’ mouths naturally? The often-repeated tidbit that dogs’ mouths are cleaner than humans‘ mouths is a myth. Dog mouths are simply made up of different bacteria. As we all know, canines aren’t afraid to stick their faces in some pretty gross places, like garbage bins or the rear end of another pup. Because of this, their mouths are far from clean. However, the risk of a healthy person getting sick from a dog kiss is low.
