It’s a truth universally acknowledged that if your Golden Retriever nephew finds herself on your street, she will be looking for you.

That is what we see in this sweet video of a Golden Retriever named Rosie.

Mom is walking Rosie when she realizes she knows this street. She has been here before! And that means someone very special to her must be nearby!

The minute Rosie and her mom turn onto the street, the dog begins to get excited and pull at her leash.

Her mom frees her from the leash on the very small, quiet street (with no cars around) as she starts running to the person we know is filming, which is Rosie’s auntie.

Rosie is so excited to see her aunt!

At the end of the video, we see her aunt giving her lots of pets before Rosie lets herself into the house.

Set to the beautiful music by Dario Marianelli and Jean-Yves Thibaudet of the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett and Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the scene feels even more magical.

The music used in the video is from the exact scene at the end of the film where Mr. Darcy walks across a field at dawn to finally and officially get together with Elizabeth.

Do Dogs Recognize Their Parents’ Friends and Family?

Of course, pups know who their human parents are, and research supports that dogs remember and recognize humans.

A 2020 study published in Animal Cognition found that dogs can even recognize their humans through photographs.

But what about the humans who are in their lives, but who they don’t live with and see every day?

The answer is yes, especially if this is a human they have or once had a very positive association with.

Scent plays a huge part in this, as Rosie knows the smell of her aunt’s street, and she has probably been down it a few times before. And as she runs, she will smell her auntie with that nose of hers.

She also knows the sounds of the street and her aunt’s voice.

Hence, this is why she went on a dramatic run to see her friend!
