Donkeys are known for their small stature and short coat. While some of them can be complete sweethearts, like taking care of their blind friends, others can be opinionated and difficult. While their stubbornness is rooted in self-preservation, the characteristic has stuck with them.
However, they are truly amazing creatures and excellent pack animals. They have a long history of being useful. While everyone thinks of donkeys under one umbrella, there are actually 180 different species worldwide. One rare donkey breed has some unique and rather surprising features.

This Rare Donkey Is Large and In Charge
The origin of the Poitou donkey is most commonly attributed to France. They were initially bred to make a better, stronger mule. The donkey stands at five feet tall at the shoulders, with long hair. According to Oklahoma State University, they were described in a king’s advisor’s memoir from 1717 as follows: “There is found, in northern Poitou, donkeys which are as tall as large mules. They are almost completely covered in hair a half-foot long with legs and joints as large as those of a carriage horse.”
While there are fewer than 500 left in the world, one man is sharing this magnificently unique equine on his TikTok account, @txpoitouguys. Tinsel is not only a rather large and hairy, but also full of opinions. While her dad was getting ready to regale the internet in a video, she started into a long oration of he-haws and brays.
Her human couldn’t talk even if he wanted to. Though the funniest part is that the manner in which she shared her opinions scared the heck out of him. He writes in the caption, “My soul left my body.”
I’m not sure what’s more amazing, her clearly indignant speech or impressive size, as she looms above her human cowboy hat-covered head.
Fans were incredibly interested in her amazing coat. Though some thought she was overdue for a grooming. However, it is her natural look. Others commented on how beautiful and adorable she is. One fan rationalizes the donkey’s interruption in comments, saying, “Tinsel just wanted to say hi.”
Clearly, she wanted to add her two cents to the conversation. I think she made a pretty successful argument here.
