Best Friends, Salt Lake County Animal Services host Thanksgiving dinner for animals awaiting homes


SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Animal services across the state are hosting Thanksgiving dinners for animals in shelters.

Volunteers for the Salt Lake County Animal Services served a Thanksgiving dinner to the to the cats and dogs awaiting homes at the shelter on Tuesday morning.

The volunteers got together to serve animal-safe chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie to the pets.

Kiera Kincaid, Special Programs Coordinator for Salt Lake County Animal Services, said that the shelter does this as a treat for the animals who don’t get to spend the holiday with a family.

“These animals are getting something that they normally don’t get on an everyday basis— a special treat,” Kincaid said.

Kincaid told ABC4 that it is exciting to see the volunteers come back year after year to spend time with the animals.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

Dogs in Kanab enjoyed a gourmet Thanksgiving meal at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary on Monday.

The meal was prepared by Kanab’s Sego Restaurant and was provided by a generous donor, in memorial of her beloved tripod rescue dog Jack.

Approximately 700 pounds of ingredients went into an elaborate, dog-friendly feast prepared without salt, sugar, or spices.

“The most special part of the meal for a lot of these dogs is pumpkin pie with whipped cream, which is really fun to watch them enjoy,” said Ramon Villatoro, Dogtown director at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. “This experience is a little bit of home for them while they wait for a home of their own.”
