Watch animals enjoy ‘Pawsgiving’ feast at San Bernardino County animal shelter

Pardon the slobber. Thanksgiving dinner went to the dogs, as well as the cats, as staff and volunteers served up a special holiday feast for the animals being housed at San Bernardino County Animal Care’s pet shelter in Devore.

The annual “Pawsgiving” tradition took place Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Devore Animal Shelter, 19777 Shelter Way.

The tail wagging feast featured treats including turkey-flavored pet foods, pumpkin purée, rice, vegetables for each animal housed at the facility, organizers said in a written statement. The event was supported by community donations and the nonprofit Animals aRe First Fund, or ARFF.

“Pawsiving is all about giving our animals a comforting holiday moment while they wait for a home,” Supervising Animal Control Officer Curtis Johnson said.

Officials thanked the community for helping brighten the holidays for the animals.

“We’re incredibly grateful for ARFF and for the community members whose donations and kindness make events like this possible,” according to San Bernardino County Assistant Director of Public Health Jennifer Osorio. “These meals are more than just food—they’re a reminder that every animal here matters.”

Adopters, foster homes needed

As always, the shelter’s ultimate goal is to place the animals it houses into permanent homes.

“If anyone wants to make an even bigger impact, adopting or fostering is the best way to change a pet’s story,” Johnson said.
