Tiny Chihuahua Having a Phone Conversation With His Human Grandpa Is Too Cute for Words

Most dogs get excited when their humans call their name, but Buddy, the 7-year-old Chihuahua, goes next level. In this adorable clip, his mom holds the phone up to him so he can talk to his human grandpa, and Buddy immediately launches into a full conversation. Grandpa asks him how he is, how his day has been, and Buddy responds with a whole series of yips, grumbles, and tiny dog opinions like they’re catching up after a long week.

What makes it even funnier is how seriously Buddy takes the call. His ears perk up, his eyes widen, and he leans toward the phone like he’s trying to make sure Grandpa hears every word. You can tell these two have a special bond, because Buddy’s little vocalizations sound exactly like someone who has a lot to report and not enough hours in the day to do it.

@talkingchihuahua shared the TikTok clip, and people in the comments think this is the cutest thing ever. One person observed, “He knows exactly who he is talking to.” Another person responded, “I think he is snitching on you to Grandpa.”

Another person added, “This is literally the cutest dang thing.” Someone else responded, “Oh my gosh. What a lucky grandpa, his grandson actually wants to talk to him on the phone!”

And if you’re listening to Buddy’s phone skills and wondering whether this much “talking” is normal, it might have you asking the real question:

Are Chihuahuas Vocal Dogs?

Chihuahuas are known for being expressive, alert, and very vocal. They often bark to communicate excitement, warn their pet parents about unfamiliar sounds, or let everyone know when something has changed in their environment.

Wag explains, “Chihuahuas are high-energy dogs, and without enough activity in their day, that excess energy needs to get released somehow. They often turn that extra energy into a high-pitched, monotone bark. This is pretty common, and even though it’s quite annoying, they need to get rid of that energy somehow. If your canine is barking to release excess energy, then your cure is pretty simple. Get rid of that excess energy.”

Chihuahuas and their small size don’t stop them from having big opinions, and they are quick to use their voices to share them. While not every Chihuahua is loud, many of them are naturally talkative and thrive when they have consistent training, routine, and plenty of attention.
