Rescue Shepherd Mix Terrified of Humans and Weighed Down With Tumors Gets New Chapter

Niall Harbison is well-known in animal advocacy circles and somewhat famous on social media for rescuing and rehabilitating street dogs in Thailand. His rescue organization, Happy Doggo, continues to flourish with the mission of reducing the suffering of dogs worldwide.

He recently came to the aid of a German Shepherd mix, who he named Atlas. The frightened street dog desperately needed medical intervention as well as human compassion.

In the Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo, Atlas was scared of Harbison and his team since he automatically sensed danger from people.

“He didn’t know we were trying to save his life,” the onscreen text read as Atlas cowered in the corner, ran away and tried fighting Harbison’s attempts of getting him on a leash. “He was terrified of humans, but he desperately needed our help.”

Harbison had a hard time getting Atlas secured but eventually was successful. The street dog was covered in massive tumors that literally weighed him down. He needed immediate medical care and a lot of love and compassion.

Atlas Needs Strenth Before Surgery

The rescue founder brought Atlas back to the Happy Doggo sanctuary, where he’s receiving proper nutrition and medical observation as he waits to be strong enough for surgery. Atlas is also being showered with lots of love and affection from Harbison and his team members.

“His body is too weak for surgery right now, but he has something he’s never known before,” the story shared. “Kindness, gentle hands and a new beginning. For the first time in his life, Atlas is safe.”

Atlas is now receiving the love and affection he deserves as he starts this new promising chapter in his life.

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021 and continues to work tirelessly to save street dogs. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, Harbison recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina.
