Bulldog Has 2 Rows of Bottom Teeth and It Couldn’t Be More Adorable

We adopted our Pug mix as a rescue from Puerto Rico. He was one of many dogs saved after Hurricane Maria. When we first brought him home in 2018, we noticed a few unique qualities about our new addition right off the bat. He was afraid of stairs, loved every food under the sun, and was missing a lot of teeth. At just a year old, we wondered how he lost some chompers so early in life but he hasn’t let it slow him down when it comes to eating.

Kilo the Bulldog puppy seems to have the opposite issue when it comes to those pearly whites. The precious pooch is getting his big boy teeth even though his baby teeth haven’t come out yet and it’s giving him quite a cute look.

In the TikTok from @sammiteeoh, Kilo was showing off his newest set of teeth as his mom held his mouth open. She gently pulled on his bottom lip to reveal the line of baby teeth in front, with larger chompers sprouting up in a row directly behind them.

“Kilo’s big boy teeth are growing behind his baby teeth and it looks hiliarious,” the onscreen text explained, with the caption adding, “The vet said his big boy teeth will push out his baby teeth. But for now he has two rows of teeth.”

The extra chompers just added to Kilo’s charm and gave the pretty puppy an adorable smile. Followers commented on how fast the canine cutie is growing, adding nicknames like “baby shark”.

Kilo may take advantage of this phase and try some foods that were previously too hard to chew.

Causes of Double Teeth in Dogs

Dogs have 42 teeth that include incisors, canines (fangs), premolars, and molars. Double teeth is most commonly caused by retained baby teeth, which happens for numerous reasons:

  • Delay in losing baby teeth, where the roots of those teeth don’t dissolve quickly enough to make room for adult teeth.

  • Genetics in certain breeds are more prone to retain baby teeth, which is often seen in small breeds like Pomeranians, Yorkies, and Chihuahuas.

  • Trauma or injury can delay adult teeth coming up, causing double teeth in the mouth.

  • Crowding is an issue when your dog doesn’t have enough room for both baby and adult teeth, prompting two rows of teeth.

Kilo’s adult teeth may force those little ones to finally come out, but in the meantime, he makes a mouthful of chompers look adorable.
