Hops, the Boston Terrier, is obsessed with his automatic ball launcher, though sometimes the expectation of waiting for it to fire is just as much fun as the launch itself. His mom recently shared a TikTok showing what he looks like as he waits for the big moment, and people can’t stop laughing.
The clip starts with Hops, fully dressed in an adorable Christmas sweater, bouncing with anticipation as he stares down the launcher. He’s thrilled and a little nervous all at once, hopping in place as he waits for the ball to drop, or we mean, launch. When it finally does, the look on his face is LOL funny!
Hops’ mom said in the video’s caption that this is an oldie but goodie, a throwback video that they’ve shared before. But whether you’ve seen it or not, it’s absolutely hilarious! We watched it at least five times!

Commenters’ Hysterical Reactions to Hops’ Funny Face
Viewers left more than 2,300 comments about Hops reacting to the ball launcher, and they were as fun to read through as the video was to watch. @Jeremy Franklin pointed out, “The facial expression of lessons learned…”
@Christine Jones shared, “100% learned the hard way where to stand but no regrets, LOL!” @Brett Mumaw added, “And has to be as close as physically possible to that spot without getting smashed in the face, haha!”
Another commenter laughed and shared, “The way he fully willingly prepared to get hit in the face!” @Eat the Rich agreed, “Oh, he’s taken one direct to the face in the past. That’s why the reaction!” @fire.singer added, “Right! I could hear him thinking… it’ll be worth it!!”
While ball launchers make playing fetch much easier for our dogs (and for us lazy paw-rents!), Canine Ethics shares a few concerns about them. “Repeatedly launching a ball puts a lot of stress on your dog’s joints, especially if they are a high-energy breed. The sudden stops and quick turns required in chasing a ball put pressure on their joints, and over time, this can lead to joint problems such as arthritis. This can be very painful and expensive to treat. It’s important to limit the amount of time your dog spends playing with a ball launcher and to give them plenty of rest breaks.”
