Elephant’s Excitement Over Pumpkin Pie Treat Is Totally Relatable

Located in sunny Florida, Elephant Oasis is a sanctuary dedicated to inspiring and educating visitors about elephants and the long history of the human–elephant bond. Lauryn Miller, one of the sanctuary’s owners, regularly shares videos on social media featuring her elephants and the funny, cool, and entertaining moments they share.

In a clip shared at the end of November, Lauryn sits down with Essex the elephant to enjoy a slice of pumpkin pie in celebration of Thanksgiving. Much like a human waiting for a treat, Essex impatiently waits for the dessert she knows is coming. She quickly scarfs down a piece and immediately asks for more, leaving us all wondering if Lauryn will get a bite too. Watch until the end to find out, though we bet you can guess the outcome!

The elephant did not want to share! We laughed when we realized that both Lauryn and the elephant are sitting in chairs! Commenter @Bucketheadbuchanan got hundreds of likes when they noticed it too, “Two minutes later I’m like wait, is she sitting on a chair?!”

@luvcycles pointed out, “She needs the large pumpkin pie from Costco!” We laughed when @irenezagorski joked, “My husband is that fast with pumpkin, and apple pies too LOL!”

Is Pumpkin Good for Elephants?

Did you know that elephants can consume around 150 pounds of fruits, vegetables, grains, and plant materials each day? It takes a lot of food to fill them up, and The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee accepts donations of pumpkins during November because it’s a great treat for their elephants.

The sanctuary explains that pumpkins “enrich the elephants’ environment and supplement their foraging opportunities during the cooler months. These pumpkins not only serve as a delightful treat but also provide essential nutrients to support the elephants’ health.”

Not only do pumpkins provide elephants with valuable vitamins and minerals, but they also offer mental stimulation as the massive animals smash and squeeze them with their trunks and devour the gourds in one bite! And if you’ve never seen an elephant crush a pumpkin like it’s an egg, it’s definitely something to see!
