It can be tricky to find unique and affordable holiday activities for the entire family to enjoy, especially when you want to include your furry friends, too. After all, pets are beloved family members who give their unconditional love year-round, so why not treat them to something special for the holidays?
Milo the Maltipoo dog is just one of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of pets who have already started a new December tradition with their families. This special yet simple activity requires no purchases or special tools, and it’s something the entire family can enjoy from the comfort of their seats.
Taking your dog to see Christmas lights is such a great idea! Many dogs are fascinated by the lights, inflatables, and other decor—even if they can see fewer colors than humans can. Milo only looked away for a moment to check in with his Dad, which was perhaps the sweetest moment of the whole video.

Some dogs are truly riveted by the holiday decorations, while others are simply happy to be out and about with their family. This is an especially fun activity for dogs who love to stick their heads out of the car window, though others may prefer to gaze at the lights from the comfort of a blanket in the back seat.
Cat mom @graceb_312 wants to remind pet parents that dogs aren’t the only ones who can enjoy Christmas light displays. Her Bengal cat was ‘paw-sitvely’ rivited with their local lights!
How cute! This kitty has so much to look at, but it’s a good thing she’s wearing a harness. It looks like she’s ready to explore the lights herself!
Christmas Car Safety With Pets
Of course, this activity may not be ideal for every pet. Those with motion sickness or a fear of cars won’t have the chance to enjoy looking out, so it’s OK to leave them at home, too. Safety and comfort always come first!
Additionally, be sure to keep pets properly secured while in the car. This could include a special seatbelt or car seat—whatever keeps them from distracting the driver! They may be able to take a closer look at the lights, like the pets in these videos, while driving slowly through neighborhoods, but not even holiday cheer comes before car safety.
Will you try this fun activity with your fur babies this year?
