Shelter dogs long for a forever home year-round, not just during the holidays. Senior dogs in particular are often overlooked for adoption due to their age, health issues, and shorter life span. Yet these pooches in their golden years have the most grateful and loving hearts, and would be a wonderful addition to any family.
Petunia the senior Pit Bull has had a tough road and hoping she soon gets chance to have a real home.
In the TikTok from @theverymarylife, Petunia lay in her kennel under a blanket with a heartbroken expression on her face. Her sadness clearly showed how little hope she had left. The senior Pit Bull had previously been taken to a home but brought back due to one small accident.
“This is sweet Petunia and she is a senior gal who came in severely neglected,” the onscreen text explained. “She was adopted once but returned 2 days later after a single potty incident.”
The post shared Petunia’s story in the hopes someone in the New Jersey area would consider making the precious Pit Bull a part of their family.
“She really tried her best and has come a long way, but the shelter life is wearing her down and her hope is fading,” the text continued.
Petunia ‘Loves Everyone’
The caption shared how Petunia has a heart filled with love for everyone she meets and despite having poor eyesight, she still enjoys life and has so much to offer.
“This sweet girl has known not a whole lotta love and yet she still has so much to give,” the caption described. “She isn’t asking for a whole lot. She would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Her eyes are going a bit so other animals like cats don’t seem to bother her too much because she can’t see them and isn’t quick enough at this age to even bother.”
The creator of the TikTok vouched for Petunia’s gentle spirit and loving heart, advising that she should have a home with older children.
“She loves everyone she meets,” the post shared. “Kids included, but due to her age, older kids who know boundaries would be best. I met her this past weekend and she absolutely melted my heart, and I would love nothing more for Christmas than to see her in a forever home to live out her days.”
