Puppies are completely adorable in every way. Their fluffy coats, giant paws, round bellies, and ability to get into mischief are all enough to win anyone’s heart. These tiny fur babies have no sense of boundaries and aren’t exactly skilled at being obedient due to their young age and desire to explore, so it takes some extra time and patience in getting them to listen.
Daisy the Golden Retriever puppy is a perfect example of following her own plan rather than her mom’s when it came to bedtime.
In the TikTok from @abidnichols, Daisy’s mom gently put the precious pooch in her crate. Apparently, Daisy hasn’t been sleeping in there.
“Attempting to make my puppy sleep in her crate,” the onscreen text explained.
The instant Daisy’s mom set her down, the canine cutie jumped right out of the crate as if to say “nope”. Daisy didn’t stay in the crate despite several attempts and chose to snuggle by the couch alongside a stuffed animal.
The Golden Retriever pup seemed oblivious to her mom’s commands and was happy just doing her own thing. Daisy was almost toddler-like as she scampered away toward the cozy couch. The fur baby may have wondered why her mom got the crate in the first place.
“Maybe next time,” the caption read.
Tips for Crate Training a Puppy
When introducing your puppy to their crate, be sure to make it as comfortable as possible by including a soft blanket and plush toys. Start off in small increments of time with the door propped open so your puppy gets familiarized with the new environment.
Here are a few tips to help the process go smoothly:

-
Keep the crate as nearby as possible so your puppy feels close to you and safe. Try and have the crate in the same room as you during the day and if possible, in your bedroom at night.
-
Train puppies in small steps so they don’t feel forced. Short spurts are best to start.
-
Let your puppy have meals in their crate so they’ll create a positive association with their surrounding.
-
Never use the crate as punishment or they will associate negative feelings and anxiety with it.
Take your time and adjust according to your puppy’s progress. Daisy may not be running to her crate just yet, but in time may consider it her own little sanctuary.
