Oscar Mayer’s Wienie 500 Race Returns with New Regional Hot Dog Voting

Oscar Mayer is bringing back what it calls the “meatiest race in motorsports,” its iconic Wienie 500.

The first-ever Wienie 500 was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the home of the Indy 500, last spring. It saw six Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles completed two laps on Miller Lite Carb Day,

It was such a success that the household-name cold cut producer said it had to bring it back—and this year, the event is going to be “bigger, bolder and more unforgettable” than ever before.

Viewers who tuned in last year know that each Wienermobile tearing up laps on the track is named after a regional hot dog. If you were among the 85,000 fans who watched the spectacle from the stands in Indy or the 8 million who watched via livestream, then you’d already know the inaugural 2025 race crowned “Slaw Dog” the winning wiener.

This year’s race is scheduled for the lead-up to the 110th Indianapolis 500, set to take place on Friday, May 22. Parade is told Slaw Dog (Southeast) will be back to defend its title, competing against Chi Dog (Midwest), New York Dog (East), Chili Dog (South) and Seattle Dog (Northwest). But following “a disappointing performance,” the Sonoran Dog (West) is “officially relegated for not cutting the mustard,” according to the brand. Meaning a spot on the track remains open for one new regional dog to enter.

So, starting today, fans are instructed to visit @Wienermobile on Instagram to cast their vote (either for a newcomer or the return of the Sonoran Dog) in the first-ever ‘Pick Your Dog’ Wienie 500 bracket and help decide which recipe should get a shot at qualifying in this year’s race.

“The response to the first Wienie 500 was overwhelming, and we heard the fans loud and clear that they were hungry for more,” Oscar Mayer’s brand communications director, Kelsey Rice, explained in a Jan. 25 statement. “This year, we’re supercharging the experience, delivering an even bigger, bolder and more unforgettable event that puts the fans at the forefront.”

Fans can expect to see custom Wienermobile decals and Hotdogger racing suits on the track, as well as hear the iconic “Wiener Song” anthem play, and finally, the trophy presentation at the “Wieners Circle” podium—complete with a mustard spray and Borg-Wiener trophy, according to the press release.

“With amplified engagement, intensified rivalries and more surprises in store, we’re giving the people what they want,” Rice added, “an unparalleled live experience that will leave them craving more.”

Not only that, but fans are getting more ways to watch it with a new, nationwide live broadcast exclusively on FOX Sports. Those looking for more information on the second annual Wienie 500, the ‘Pick Your Dog’ Wienie 500 bracket and how to follow along to see who the sixth regional hot dog will be, are instructed to follow @Wienermobile on Instagram and @OscarMayer on TikTok.

And if you’ve ever wanted to drive a Wienermobile, that’s still totally plausible as the company is hiring and applications are open until later this week, officially closing at the end of the month (Saturday, Jan. 31).
