Every time I leave for a run, I return to find my dog faithfully waiting by the back door. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been gone 30 minutes or 3 hours; she does not rest until I’m home safe. The steadfast loyalty of dogs is so deep, it’s enough to make a grown man (or woman!) cry!
A sweet Newfoundland named Chewy would be great friends with my dog. He waits by his 96-year-old Grandma’s gate each day until she opens the door to welcome him in. Their bond truly is one for the record books.

Ever the patient, devoted companion to Grandma, Chewy takes his role as her bestie very seriously. He doesn’t mind camping out every morning because she’s well worth the wait.
The love that exists between Chewy and Grandma makes my heart swell. The video shows the precious pup lying by the gate, staring at the door until Grandma, who happens to be his neighbor, invites him over. Only then does his tail wag because he can start his day—with his favorite lady!
The sweet Newfoundland who loves his family SO much pops right up in anticipation of getting over to her.

Recently, Chewy and his family threw a “Galentine’s” party, with the VIP being Grandma. To celebrate the love holiday in style, Grandma sewed Chewy a very special outfit, and he looked so handsome!
Chewy and Grandma’s Bond Has Everyone Swooning
Just as I described my dog’s unconditional love and loyalty, Chewy lives up to the very same (or more) in his relationship with his grandma. Together, the two have racked up an impressive following who can’t bear to think of a time one leaves the other.
“I love their relationship so much, and I’m scared to death something’s gonna happen to her because they love each other so much,” one concerned fan wrote. “I feel like they were soulmates in a past life.”
Thankfully, Chewy’s mom replied to reassure everyone, writing: “She is so healthy! I know she’s 96, but I tell her all the time she’s going to make it to 105 at least. Chewy needs her. We all do.”
Here’s to many more years of love, light, and laughter for Chewy and Grandma—and those of us watching their epic love story unfold!
