Shy Shelter Kitten ‘Chooses’ Her New Mom With the Most Irresistible Cuddles

Adopting a cat can be a straightforward process, but many cat parents meet their new fur babies in ways they’d never expect. The ‘cat distribution system’ works in mysterious ways, after all, but it always brings cats and kittens to exactly where they need to be.

Cat mom Rachel Charalambous visited her local animal shelter to adopt a specific kitten, but while she was there, another kitten chose her as her new mom. The tabby kitty offered the sweetest cuddles and hugs, and she pulled out all the stops to prove how much love she has to give. Within minutes, Rachel had no choice but to bring her new baby home!

These two were meant to find one another! It’s hard to believe that shelter staff called this kitten ‘shy’ before she met Rachel, but it only goes to show that a little love goes a long way. Once the shelter kitten started coming out of her shell, there was no going back!

“Not her showing you she’s the best girlie by eating her food when you came,” @nabeelahdawood commented. She must have felt safe and happy as soon as Rachel walked into the room, because she suddenly became an entirely different cat. It was pure magic!

Much to no one’s surprise, the rescued kitten, whom Rachel named Mushu, felt at home with her forever family right away. She instantly warmed up to her new dad, and she spent her first night of freedom cuddled up between her parents on their bed.

How Rescue Cats Choose Their People

Other cat parents chimed in to share similar stories of connecting with their rescue cats. Consider this your warning to grab a tissue!

“When I got my cat, I had already seen her on their website, and she was my first choice,” @tsyoung22 began. “I walked in and was looking around at all of them, trying to find her. I was standing beside a tall cat tree, and I felt a little paw tap me on the shoulder, and it was her. We chose each other from day 1.”

Even shy cats like Mushu may recognize their forever family right away, though it has to be a two-way street for a cat to get adopted. This is why it’s so important for cat parents to keep an open mind when visiting a shelter or rescue. You never know who you may meet!
