Young Penguin Brings ‘Second Born’ Energy to the Pool and We’re Here for It

Two penguin young’uns offer us the ultimate lesson in opposites. This cute TikTok video starts out by showing us penguin mom, swimming happily in her pool. “POV: You tell your kids to wait for their friends to move before jumping in the pool.”

But do they wait? Well one does, and you can probably guess which.

Dutiful first born goes first and patiently awaits his turn. When the pool clears out a bit, he hesitantly slides in, ensuring he doesn’t land on anyone. Second-born has no such qualms, though. She dives in right on top of an unsuspecting swimmer. The caption sums it up perfectly, “Journey understood the assignment. Eileen did not care about the assignment.” She showed us her sass, alright. (Luckily, the unsuspecting penguin seems unbothered by her antics).

Naturally, it was all hearts and smiles in the comments. These two certainly make a great pair!

About the Penguins at Tanganyika Wildlife Park

These clever birds have captured the hearts and minds of people in popular culture, but they face threats in the real world. As the park explains, “African Black-Footed Penguins are native to Southern Africa and found primarily in the nations of South Africa and Namibia. But halfway across the world, in Wichita Kansas, Tanganyika Wildlife Park is working hard to help preserve this critically endangered species and save them from extinction.”

Unfortunately, penguins across the globe are up against challenges, like overfishing, habitat loss, and oil spills. They’re one of the most endangered birds out there. That makes the breeding program at Tanganyika even more crucial.

Believe us, these guys are worth the effort. They can swim 12 miles per hour and over 400 feet deep. Many penguins live in complex social groups, but African Penguins also mate for life and split parenting responsibilities between males and females.

The penguins at this park are often available for meet and greets or swims, so you can go hang out with rule-following Journey or rebel Eileen.
