German shepherds are the hard workers of the dog world, but we’ve never seen a furry little helper that works as hard as this!
This video, posted to the Cuddle Buddies Shorts page on YouTube, highlights how one German shepherd anticipates his humans’ needs before they even say anything, and he’s just too cute for words.

“He is the number one house helper,” the video caption reads as we’re introduced to Buck, the German shepherd.
“I’ll never have another dog like Buck,” the pup’s mom says on the voice-over. “Whatever I’m doing, he tries to see how he can help. If I’m trying to do water, he’ll drag the hose. Like, I could tell this dog is exceptional.”
We learn and see old videos of how Buck, even as a puppy, would pay attention to his mom’s needs, learning along the way how to best be a handy little helper.
He’d pick up shoes left on the ground, bring gardening tools over as soon as mom got into the dirt, help collect eggs from the chicken coop and make other helpful gestures, whatever the hour, day or night.
“If my husband is building a deck, he will bring him the tools,” the voice-over continues. “I think his first real big thing helping is when I put the garbage outside and he picked up that bag and carried it with me, and he might sometimes bring me things unnecessarily but I will always, no matter what, thank him.”

“He’s a working dog, and that’s what makes him happy,” one commenter says.
“A dog with a job is a happy dog,” says another.
“Buck is exceptional, but you recognized that he was trying to help and encouraged him instead of correcting him like most people do. You’re a team,” another notes.
Why Are German Shepherds Such Good Helpers?
German shepherds were bred to be intelligent and highly trainable, and that skill has always come in handy for farmers and shepherds. That’s why “shepherd” is in their name!
These naturally born working dogs get a burst of energy from doing their “jobs,” and they have a natural drive to complete tasks around the house.
They form strong bonds with their humans and love the attention and praise they get for a job well done from mom and dad. This is why, as that last commenter shared, it’s important to thank your dog and treat them to the praise they’ve earned, further training them to be great helpers, just like Buck.
If you’ve got a helpful German shepherd at home, be sure to shower them with praise and affection every time they help with a task. They’ll be more likely to continue helping in the years to come.
