Golden Retrievers From Florida See Snow for the First Time and Absolutely Lose It

Most people believe that there’s something magical about the first snowfall of the year. But many people likely can’t remember the first time they saw and played in the snow. One of our favorite TikTok trends is watching videos of dogs seeing snow for the first time this season, or, in some cases, for the first time in their lives. That’s what happens in a video from @winstonandbenny, or Winston and Benny, two golden retrievers from Florida.

This 73-second-long clip is captioned, “My golden retrievers who grew up in Florida seeing snow for the first time,” and starts with Winston and Benny running down some stairs inside a home. They reach a glass door, see that the ground is entirely white, and look confused. But they also look intrigued and excited as their human mother unlocks the door. Winston and Benny both run outside into the snow, and after some initial hesitation and confusion, they start to absolutely love it.

Well, at least one of them loves it. One sits in it looking around while the other frolics, jumps, and runs around. Then they both get the snow hype bug and start jumping around and playing with each other in the snow. And that’s how the rest of the video goes! Winston and Benny chase each other around the yard, eating the snow, jumping at each other, and having an all-around excellent time together in the snow.

The TikTok video has racked up hundreds of thousands of views, likes, and comments. “We live in New Orleans, where it does snow. But last year we unexpectedly got a foot of snow. My two goldens and my goldendoodle had THE BEST time playing in it,” wrote @LindaMarkensonTafa. “Florida boys said this sand is weird and cold, but we like it!!” commented @Marissa_Murphy.

Most dogs love snow for its novelty, as it creates a new environment that taps into their natural curiosity and exploratory drive. It’s also a way to activate hunting instincts and play. For many dogs, this is a comfortable temperature range.
