Everyone has an embarrassing moment every now and then. That’s just part of life! Humans may deal with embarrassment by blushing, playing it cool, or stress-eating ice cream, but animals don’t react to awkwardness in the same way.
When Lance the Dromedary camel had a humiliating moment on March 1, he dealt with it by making the strangest sound, which only made matters worse! A rescue team was already dispatched to Gentle Giants Draft Rescue help Lance stand up when he suddenly found himself unable, but he had to go and make a bigger scene out of it all. It’s okay, everyone still loves you, Lance!
That’s one unhappy camel! Lance was already annoyed that he couldn’t stand up, but he was downright furious to see the Technical Large Animal Rescue Team heading toward him. Little did he know they were just there to help!
While Lance was busy throwing a tantrum, his fans were fascinated by the priceless sounds he was making. Commenter @mindbodyspirit.jeannie admitted, “For the first few seconds, I thought he just had serious gas!” Others thought he was belching, or even growling, but only Lance knows what he was truly trying to say.

“So, was Lance making tractor noises or was the tractor making Lance noises?” @donna.d83 asked. We may never know! Some camels say ‘hey’ when they talk, while others rarely make noises at all, so it can be tricky to guess what other kinds of noises these animals can make.
There are three main camel species, but the two most recognizable are Bactrian and Dromedary. Dromedary camels like Lance have one hump on their backs, while Bactrian camels have two. A third species, the Wild Bactrian, is a rare species native to Mongolia and China.
Lance’s Medical Mystery
Still, an important question remains: Why couldn’t Lance get up? Even though there’s an entire rescue team dedicated to moving large animals, this is no ordinary circumstance. Massive camels should be able to stand up on their own!
Gentle Giants Draft Rescue replied to a comment, “We always have a vet on-site when we respond, and she gave him a full workup. We’re not 100% sure what the exact cause was, but hoping it doesn’t happen again! If it does, we’ll be there!”
Every rescue animal deserves the kind of care and love that grumpy guy Lance has. His human friends are truly doing all they can to set him up for success, even if he grunts and groans in complaint the entire time!
