Shelter dogs often deal with a traumatic past while living in a chaotic kennel and hope to one day be adopted. Some canines end up spending more time in a shelter than others for a variety of reasons, but the goal is always to find every dog their forever family.
Bret Michaels is a Pit Bull currently at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, Long Island, where he’s been waiting for a home for 587 days. Staff members and volunteers are trying to spread the word about this precious pooch and get him the second chance he deserves.
The TikTok from @adopt_bret_and_friends shared the pretty Pittie’s story and appealed on his behalf for a chance at adoption.
“Bret Michaels is 7 years young and spending day 587 in the shelter, when these should be the best years of his life,” the caption explained. “He’s ready for a home today and just needs the right match.”
Named after the frontman for the rock band Poison to exemplify the canine cutie’s charm, Bret would flourish in a loving and compassionate environment as a solo dog. He needs time and patience to feel secure and would be a wonderful addition to a family willing to open their heart to this sweet pooch.
“He would do best as the only pet, where he can relax and not have to share his space,” the story continued. “Bret can live with kids 13+ and is such a loyal, loving boy once he feels safe. He’ll thrive with an adopter who understands he’s more comfortable without other dogs around and will set him up for success.”
Bret Michaels Knows Basic Commands
Described as a “sweet, affectionate boy who enjoys human companionship”, Bret already knows some common commands and is eager to please.
